Judging criteria

How projects are evaluated

We want judging to feel clear and fair. Judges will look at four areas, each with a specific weight toward your final score.

💡 Creativity
30%
Is your idea original or surprising? Does it explore a unique angle, theme, or user experience that stands out?
⚙️ Technical quality
30%
How well is your project built? This includes code quality, implementation difficulty, performance, and robustness.
🌍 Impact
25%
Who does your project help, and how meaningful is that impact? Even small, focused tools can score highly if they solve a real pain.
🎤 Presentation
15%
How clearly can you explain what you built, why you built it, and how it works? Great storytelling can amplify your work.

Every contribution to our HCB donation page goes directly toward empowering teenagers — from buying hardware to shipping stickers to supporting students who wouldn’t otherwise be able to join.

By donating, you’re not just funding an event; you’re helping a new generation of makers, programmers, and designers discover what they’re capable of.
